Frequently Asked Questions

  • Practice at AthaYoga Workshops & Retreats

At AthaYoga workshops and retreats, we practice at an intermediate level, with the flexibility to choose between simpler or more advanced variations to suit your experience.

The AthaYoga series is always adapted to your individual capacities and needs. Yoga props are available if needed, and the practice integrates a variety of breathing techniques, bandhas (energetic locks), and meditations as essential components.

If you are a complete beginner, we recommend preparing for the retreat by following the free Dog Flow tutorial on YouTube. This series consists of 10 classes of 15–20 minutes, offering a comprehensive introduction to AthaYoga for beginners. Search for: https://www.youtube.com/@athayoga-isabellawelsch

  • If you have already practiced yoga, you may recognize elements of the styles that have influenced the creation of AthaYoga—including Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Yoga of Energy (by Boris Tatzky), Kripalu Yoga, Shadow Yoga, Kalari Yoga, and Kundalini Yoga (by Dhirendra Brahmachari).

However, AthaYoga is more than just a fusion of these styles. Each AthaYoga series is intelligently designed to harmonize the energies of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space—within the human system, creating a balanced and transformative practice.

  • In our AthaYoga meditations on the elements, chakras, and bhavanas*, you will experience the seamless integration of yoga, Buddhist meditation, and Western psychotherapeutic methodologies, flowing together in perfect harmony.

Bhavanas are the spiritual attitudes described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

  • We accommodate a variety of dietary preferences, including organic, vegetarian (lacto-ovo), pescatarian, and seafood-based options.

At AthaYoga, we believe that yoga is for everyone, but we also recognize that certain health conditions may not be suited for specific practices. If you have any concerns, please reach out to us to discuss the types of yoga and additional practices offered at the retreat. We’ll be happy to help determine if it’s the right fit for you or explore possible accommodations.

Please note that at this time, we are unable to provide classes or retreats specifically designed for pregnancy.
