Have you already read the general information about the training?
The curriculum
Asana, Pranyama, Mudra, Kriya, Bandha:
You learn how to teach beginners, so we focus on a moderate practice with poses that make sense and are accessible to people who have no previous experience with yoga or similar activities.
You learn how to regulate the breathing, to synchronize it with movements and how to apply the bandhas (energetic locks). You are taught how to instruct, sense, watch and correct in order to enhance learning and to work in pairs.
At Level 1, you do not learn about postures or movements that are very complex or require a high level of acrobacy.
Deep relaxation and silent or guided meditation:
We introduce you to Yoga Nidra (guided deep relaxation in lying posture) and to the basics of silent and guided meditation (sitting upright; if necessary, it is always possible to use a chair).
Anatomy and physiology:
Here you are taught all that is necessary about muscles, joints, the spine, the organs, etc. You get to know how to teach safely from a physical point of view and how to adapt to limitations and injuries.
Yoga -history and -philosophy; Ayurveda and Yogic diet:
This course teaches the Indian concept of the 5 elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. This is the basis of the Samkhya-philosophy, which in turn forms the basis of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which are studied intensely.
We also introduce you to Ayurveda, which is built on the same system of the 5 elements. The knowledge of the fundamentals of Ayurveda will lead you to understand the yogic principles of a healthy diet.
Inner Yoga and Yogic lifestyle:
Trying to lead the life of a yogi/ni also means gaining awareness of unproductive patterns of thoughts, words and actions and to replace them by more beneficial ones. We take time to practice this in a safe environment, so that you can explore new ways.
Teaching methodology:
How to teach Yoga well is one of our main focuses. You will get a very clear idea of how the already mentioned Indian system of the 5 elements is your most important guide in creating yoga sequencies and in understanding the energy and quality of each pose. You learn how to introduce newcomers well to the science of yoga and how to teach in a moderate way, neither over- nor underchallenging your future students.
Teaching practice:
By the end of the training each student will have taught their fellow trainees a total of 75 min. and will have received constructive feedback from them.
The business of yoga:
If you intend to live from yoga, you need to know a few facts about the modern business world. You will learn the intrecacies of marketing in this field.
To complete the training you need to write down answers to a few questions. There is time to do this in your breaks during the training, but it is also possible to submit the answers up to 6 months after the training period ends.
Level 1 graduates receive their certificates either at the closing ceremony or by post, depending on when the written answers are submitted.
